Thank you for joining OCO for the 2026-2027 Season Premiere: Heroes & Heroines! This is a program built around courage in all its forms, and we're excited to welcome you back as we kick off the new season, this time with our 2026 Young Artist Competition winner sharing the stage.

We open with Beethoven's Leonore Overture No. 3, drawn from his opera Fidelio and named for its fearless heroine, a fitting way to start an evening devoted to heroism. From there, pianist Yi Zhang, winner of our 2026 Young Artist Competition, joins OCO for the first movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor.

The second half features OCO performing Zoltán Kodály's Háry János Suite, a colorful, folk-infused portrait of a boastful Hungarian soldier whose tall tales turn everyday life into legend. We're presenting it this season in recognition of the centennial of the original opera's premiere.

This program is a musical journey that centers living Indigenous voices and looks at the American orchestral tradition through a local, contemporary lens. We open with a featured set for Native American flute by Travis Komahcheet, a Comanche musician from Oklahoma, grounding the audience in the sound of this land and recognizing Indigenous musical traditions as living practices within our community.

From there, we continue with Connor Chee's Bassoon Concerto. Chee is a Diné composer, and hearing his voice performed within the symphonic tradition brings Indigenous creative expression directly into the concert hall. The piece features Dr. Jacqueline Wilson (Yakama) on bassoon, whose work focuses on Native American and Indigenous self-representation and artistic sovereignty.

Heard in this context, Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, From the New World, is presented not as a starting point but as a response, inviting you to reconsider the influences that shaped the American sound.

Join OCO for a family and youth concert themed on the high seas! We are going to have a swashbuckling good time with music from The Flying Dutchman (Wagner), Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid, Calm Sea & Prosperous Voyage (Mendelssohn), Selections from Moana 2, Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack Highlights, and more!

This concert will feature the two overall winners of the 2027 Young Artist Competition. The competition will take place in February 2027, so this page will be updated with more information after the winners are selected and confirmed. Please check back closer to the date for more information.

This program celebrates tradition while looking at how the orchestral art form continues to grow and change. We open with Beethoven's Consecration of the House Overture, written for the opening of a public performance space, a piece that puts music's role in civic and cultural life front and center. This concert also commemorates the bicentennial year of Beethoven's death in 1827, and we're honored to celebrate 200 years of his enduring influence on the orchestral tradition.

We close with Johannes Brahms's Symphony No. 3, continuing our exploration of Brahms's symphonic output after performing Symphony No. 2 in the 2024-2025 season. With this performance, OCO begins a multi-year journey through Brahms's symphonies, giving you the chance to experience the depth and development of one of the central symphonic voices of the nineteenth century.
